The absolute worst possible surface to run on is concrete because it’s so hard it doesn’t absorb any of the shock when your feet hit. Instead, the shock goes back into your feet and legs. Blacktop and treadmills are better choices, since they absorb some of the shock, while grass or dirt trails are by far the best surfaces.
